Philosophy behind our Casa el Cardo Morado
We are David and Gine Shearlaw, together since October 1994 and married for 20 years. Since February the 5th, 2019 we live in this beautiful house in Aspe.
Why to start a B&B and why Spain?
In 1995 we lived in New Zealand for a year, and in Scotland (David's native country) we searched for a B&B, but this was not what we were looking for. After that we almost started our own running shop, but we didn't do it. Afterwards this was a good decision. A year later David got a hernia that he had surgery on and I was diagnosed with breast cancer in the same year (2017).
Then you really start to think what is important in life and what else you want to do. We wanted to go to a country with a warm and dry climate, but not too far from our family in the Netherlands. Spain it was. Last year we spent 3 weeks looking for a suitable place and house in Andalusia. But we couldn't find anything that suited us. Then we found this house in the Costa Blanca in Aspe. We flew out on a Sunday and on Tuesday we bought this house. This was exactly what we were looking for and in a beautiful place.
Why a B&B? We like to give people a wonderful holiday time in a beautiful room with the luxury of home and the adventurous glamping tent also equipped with every luxury. A nice environment with good food, a drink, a swim in the pool and of course almost good weather.
And we also have an arrangement especially for people who just want to take a break during or after breast cancer diagnosis. I know better than anyone how wonderful it is to get away from this all, to let things go and get out of that hospital environment. Or after the first check after a year, that was the most difficult period for me. Therefore this arrangement, just enjoy, also from each other, the environment and the nice weather.
Who doesn't want to have a special treatment? Well that is possible with us!
And on May the 14th, this year (2019) we have received an official license for a B&B from our own female mayor María José Villa Garis of Aspe. So proud!
